Building Tennessee's premier academic esports community
Our Mission
The Tennessee Academic Esports League (TAEL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving every Tennessee student a place to belong, compete, and grow through academic and scholastic esports. We connect elementary, middle, and high schools, libraries, and community programs across the state through competitive gaming, career pathways, and academic excellence.
We believe scholastic esports is more than a game. When done well, it builds the skills that matter most for a Tennessee student's future. Teamwork, strategic thinking, communication, leadership, and the discipline to balance competition with academic success. For many students, an esports team becomes the first place at school where they feel they belong. We exist to make sure that belonging turns into measurable outcomes: better attendance, stronger grades, and real career and college opportunities at every grade level.
Founded on the principles of fair competition, academic integrity, and prosocial community building, TAEL serves as the bridge between traditional Tennessee education and the rapidly evolving world of competitive gaming. We partner closely with schools, districts, parents, and community organizations to ensure esports participation enhances academic success rather than detracting from it. Every TAEL student is held to age-appropriate academic eligibility standards because we believe the classroom and the arena strengthen each other.
Our league welcomes students of all ages and skill levels, from elementary players discovering scholastic competition for the first time to high school athletes pursuing collegiate scholarships and esports careers. Through structured seasons, professional-grade tournament operations, and comprehensive coach and family support, we're creating pathways for Tennessee students to turn passion into purpose, and to discover careers in the multi-billion-dollar esports industry, from broadcasting and event production to programming, marketing, journalism, and game design.
